CMT wanted to do a show that looks back to the year 1990 and what happened in country music. The show segments would be divided into categories using senior superlatives (best dressed, most likely to succeed, etc.) and packaged like a high school yearbook.
An acutal high school notebook/slambook was created by hand, incorporating doodles, photos, and popular culture and sayings from that particular year. The book was filmed using a DV camera, flipped through quickly, spinning and being held up page by page to the viewer.
